Myocardial Ischemia
“Records of numerous cases including myocardial ischemia showed lesions of the spinal column are capable of simulating, accentuating, or making a major contribution to (organic) disorders. There can in fact be no doubt that the spinal column does have a bearing on the functional status of the internal organs.”
w. Kunert, 1965 Functional Disorders of lnternal Organs Due To Vertebral Lesions, CIBA Symposium 13 (3): 85-96.
Paroxysmal Tachycardia
“Here the changes found in the spinal column are linked with tachycardia in such a way that when we normalized the function of the spinal column, heart rhythm also became normal and remained so as long as there is no relapse in the spinal column.”
Lewitt MD, DSc Manipulative Therapy in Rehabilitation of the Locomoter System ( 1 985) Butterworth and Company London and Boston. Page 261.
Hearing
“As a result of personal experience there is no doubt in my mind that somatic dysfunction in joints in the upper thoracic spine can affect the function of the inner ear by way of its sympathetic innervation.”
JF Bourdilon MD. Spinal Manipulation Appelton and Lange 1987 Pg. 5.
Heart Rhythm Disorders
“According to studies by Rychlikova, Schwartz and Metz a comparison of EKG’s taken before and after manual therapy shows telesystolic changes and normalization, as well as cured heart rhythm disorders.”
“Manual Therapy In Internal Medicine” E.G. Metz at Bezirksankerhaus,
(formally East) Germany 1976.
Ulcers
“Scoliosis of even slight degree involving segments
corresponding to the stomach i.e. T6-T9 seem to play a part in 90% of patients with peptic ulcers.”

Immune System
The effect of spinal manipulation on the respiratory burst of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) and monocytes from treated adults was measured by zysom-stimulated chemiluminescence (CL). Peripheral blood was collected 1 5 minutes before and 1 5 minutes after a thoracic spine manipulation. The CL responses of both neurophils and monocytes from subjects who received spinal manipulation were significantly higher than the response in sham or soft-tissue treated subjects.
J. Manip. Physiol. Ther. 1991; 14 (7) Sep: Pg. 399-408.
Ulcers
“Studies demonstrated improved remissions of pathology in patients with duodenal ulcers. Manipulation to remove spinal dysfunction not only relieves pain, but has a healing effect significantly better than standard drug therapy. The most frequently affected segments were T9-T12.”
A.A. Pikalov, MD, PhD. Vyatcheslav, V.K. (1994) Use of Spinal Manipulative Therapy in the Treatment of Duodenal Ulcer: A Pilot Study, J. Manipul. Physiol. Ther. 17: (5): 310-313.
Asthma
“In addition to rigidity of the ribs Koberle (1975) found blockage of mainly segments T7-T1O in asthmatics.”
Lewitt MD, DSc, Manipulative Therapy in Rehabilitation of the Locomoter System (1985) Butterworth and Company London and Boston. Pg. 259.
Liver and Gall bladder
Tilscher, studying patients with hepatitis found movement restriction in the segments T8-T1O and restricted rotation of the right hip.
Lewitt MD, DSc, Manipulative Therapy in Rehabilitation of the Locomoter System (1985) Butterworth and Company London and Boston. Pg. 261.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Heartburn
In a Scandinavian study gastroenterologists found 72% of the patients with abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome, and heartburn had subluxations of the spine in the area that supply the nerves to the abdomen. They postulated a reflex over the nerves which pass through the spine to affect organs.
Jorgensen, L. S . and Fossgreen, J, Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1 990, Dec . 25(12).
Fibromyalgia
“We conclude that the analysis of posture is very important with the pathogenesis of Fibromyalgia. Correction of posture may become a significant and successful part of therapy in these patients.”
Journal of Manual Medicine (1990) 5: 169-174.
Allergies and Sinus Problems
Patients had complaints of allergy, ear infection, sinus problems , respiratory problems , and gastrointestinal problems. Complete or substantial improvement occurred in 61.6% of these patients under Chiropractic care.

Gastrointestinal Disease
“The selected findings, muscle tension over the tip of transverse process and reduction of costovertebral (cardiac) motion in the left upper thoracic region, were accurate in indicating the presence of cardiac or gastrointestinal disease in 76% of cases.
Beal; Myron C, FAAO, July 1983, Journal of AOA, Vol 82 (1 1), 822/23.
Varicose Veins, Osteoporosis
“Shifts in center of gravity or postural adjustments of aging lead to intestinal diverticula, hemorrhoids, varicosities of the legs, osteoporosis, hip and foot deformities, overall poorer health, and even shortened life span.”
